Taking kids on a road trip can seem like a daunting task. It’s certainly not as easy to get-up-and-go as it was before our little loves. Remember those days?... It seems like so long ago, haha! Now, it takes some planning and ways to get around the ever popular “Are We There Yet”. But, toss that aside and check out this article. I have compiled a list of products that actually work and that we use for our family! Now, you too can enjoy a relaxing car ride with a lot more smiles. After all, when the kids are happy... the parents are happy, too!
Safety!
Buckle Me Baby Coats:
The most important part of being in the car is being safe! That’s why the first thing I want to share with you is the Buckle Me Baby Coats! I have used this brand with my daughter and I will be using them again with my son once the weather gets colder. These coats are perfect for keeping kids safe, as you can buckle them into their car seat with the harness right against their body… not over a puffy winter coat! Then you wrap the front of the jacket over the harness and either snap or zip (depending on which style coat you get) it together to keep them warm. This is also a handy feature for longer car rides, as you can open the front of the jacket to cool your child down without having to get them out of their car seat! Mom score!!
Toys!
Every kid needs some goodies to entertain them on a long ride. This isn’t just for them, this is for YOU too! Having the kids happy can make a long car ride go much smoother. These fun items will definitely help to pass the time!
Kids Travel Tray:
With this Kids Bright Toys travel tray your kids won’t have to balance toys, coloring books, food, crayons, or anything else on their lap in the car anymore! This tray has pockets for crayons, markers, tablet, toys, and much more! The surface area of the tray is hard, perfect for coloring and doing activities. The sides are reinforced with Velcro for added stability and support and the underneath is padded with a soft pillow-like material so it’s not hard and uncomfortable on your child’s lap. Genius! I love how compact this tray can get too! It folds right down and even comes with a carrying bag - too cute! This travel tray can be used anywhere; in the car, on a plane, train, or even at home! Comes in two colors: Purple and Blue!
I SPY Travel Card Game:
Every kid loves a good game of I SPY and this travel card game by Briarpatch is the ultimate seek-and-find card game! It will keep your kids entertained while enjoying the scenery. Great for short rides or long road trips. This is not only a fun game for your kids, but they will be learning at the same time. I love that! They will discover items containing specific words or letters, having specific shapes or colors and they will be building their vocabulary! There are also beautiful photographs, familiar object collections and rhyming riddles that are brain teasers for kids and fun for adults too! This game is great for ages 4+ and 1 or more players.
Travel Scavenger Hunt For Kids Card Game:
This scavenger hunt game by Briarpatch is the next level up from the I SPY Travel Card Game. Ages 7+. It can be played with 2 or more players and will keep your kids looking out the window and enjoying the scenery, too. They will search for certain color cars, tow trucks, license plates with the letter “z”, bicycles, and so much more! This game also comes with “special cards” for an extra special game! You can get a “swap me card”, “hear it card”, “feel it card”, etc. where, you guessed it, the player has to hear, smell, or feel something to discard it. Too fun! This game include 54 scavenger hunt cards and will keep the good times rolling!
Ultimate Puzzle Sticker Book Bundle:
Put a new, fun spin on puzzles and stickers with these adorable and very entertaining Sticker Puzzles! This truly is the ultimate bundle that Lori T’s Gifts and More put together! It contains Disney Princess, Disney Mickey and Friends, Disney/Pixar Cars and even the adorable Curious George! These 32 fun puzzle pages with 840 stickers (!!!) will keep your kids entertained for hours! They will unscramble the stickers to create surprise pictures of their favorite characters! Creative and mess free fun! This pack is great for boys and girls, something for everyone! Ages 3+. Now, if only my daughter will share with me!
Littleangelo Jumbo Coloring Book:
What kid doesn’t love to color?! This jumbo coloring book is perfect for both boys and girls! There are 50 pages of fun animal characters doing silly things that will surely give your kids a laugh! These animals are doing sports, working, cooking, racing, and so much more! They are quality pages that you can rip out and share. Each page includes a “Name” spot for your little artist to sign once they complete their masterpiece. Geared for ages 4-8, but I’m a little older than that (wink) and I love to color too!
Kwik Stix:
My daughter loves Kwik Stix! They last a looooong time and really cut down on the mess of coloring! Kwik Stix are made of solid tempera paint that dries super quick! Which means, great for car rides! They come in a variety of bright, beautiful colors that can be overlapped, masked and mixed to create any color your child wants! And the topper? These sticks won’t fade or crack! Woohoo!
Magik Stix:
These markers are also a sure winner for the car as they are washable and they don’t have an odor! Now all the passengers in your car won’t be “knocked-out” by any toxic fumes! That alone is a big win for me! These non-toxic markers also come in bright bold colors and have a vented safety cap. But, guess what?! If your child forgets to put on the cap (we all know our kids do it), they are GUARANTEED to not dry out for 7 days!! What’s that I hear?… oh yeah… that’s money staying in my pocket! Cha-ching!
Food!
What’s a road trip without some yummy food?! If your taking a trip, you’re bound to get hungry and there’s nothing better than eating something you actually like on the road… not that unhealthy rest stop food. Pack a lunch, snacks, and other goodies with these great products!
Zulay Kitchen Kids Bento Box:
This is the perfect place to store your kids meal on-the-go! This handy lunch box comes with 5 perfectly proportioned kid-size compartments, sealed with a leak-proof lid, and secured with kid-friendly latches. It’s sturdy and has silicon edges for non-slip grip. It’s built to last against all the tough uses a kid can put it through, and we as parents know, can be a lot! Your child can personalize the lid by adding stickers, drawing on it, or even painting it! Plus, for us parents, it’s easy to clean with a removable tray (that is microwave safe!). It also comes with a spork - how fun!
Whiskware DC Comic Stackable Snack Packs:
How cute are these stackable snack packs?! Oh my goodness, too adorable! These snack packs feature officially licensed DC Comics; Batman, Superman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman! Their interlocking system makes them perfect for traveling. Keep everything together, or easily separate a container when your little one is hungry. If you want to get creative, get a couple of packs and mix-and-match to create your own snack pack! Each pack consists of three containers, measuring; 1/3 cup, 1 cup, and 1 cup. The removable handle makes stacking easy and perfect for carrying or clipping to a bag. They are BPA and phthalate-free, dishwasher and freezer safe!
Music!
Nothing rounds out a fun road more trip than some good tunes! Music helps to pass the time and is a great way for the whole family to do something together. Sing along, or just relax and listen. My daughter loves listening to music in the car and in fact, always requests it! Here are my daughter's favorite tunes.
Suzi Shelton:
This is my daughter’s favorite! Suzi is an award-winning children’s recording artist who has been performing over 15 years for families! And ever since my daughter heard the first song “Put Your Hands in the Air” off Suzi’s 5th album “Hand in Hand”, she was hooked! This is on non-stop rotation in our car, and I love it too. The songs are fun and inspiring and Suzi powers them with a sweet, talented voice. The album is an upbeat, eclectic pop family album with a modern edge.
Kira Willey:
Kira is an award-winning songwriter, author, and kids’ yoga expert! This is her fifth album, "Every Voice", and has catchy tunes with sing-along choruses. She wanted to sing songs that promoted confidence, compassion and hope to inspire and empower kids to be their strong and capable selves. And, I think she did just that! This is a great album that we love!
Katherine Dines:
Katherine is a Grammy-nominated independent family music artist. She just released a new album of 13 songs and some interesting stories and facts about how people around the world celebrate holidays. Perfect for the upcoming holiday season and road trips to visit family! Her songs have been featured in Build-A-Bear Workshops, Disney’s 101 Dalmatians Dog Songs, Hallmark greeting cards, and more!
I hope you enjoyed reading my article about all the fun products my family uses when we go on road trips. I know they will help you too on your next family adventure, or even a trip around town! I couldn’t wait to share them with you! Which ones are your favorites?
